200 Fungi on our Feet

Scientists in the United States have discovered that people have around 200 different types of fungi that are colonising on our feet.

According to BBC, a US study says that fungi favorite parts of the foot are under toenails, between the toes and under the heel.

According to Los Angeles Times, a typical person's heel will be home to at least 80 types of fungi, while 60 types of fungi will reside in between the toes and 40 on the toenail.

According to Fox, researchers from National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) examined 10 adults to map the fungi on them, which they did by using DNA sequencing.

The study revealed that about 20 percent of the participants showed signs of possible foot fungal infections, which affect more than 20 million people throughout North America.
